Editing Blog

Image
Today we finished editing our editing for the project, this mean we’re done!! It was a very fun project even though it was a little challenging. I personally think it turned out really well. It may not be exactly as good as I imagined but it’s the best I could with what I have at my disposal. The last bit of editing was pretty easy to get done as well it only took about half an hour. It was mostly just adding the text to really make it seem like a true opening scene. I’m very thankful for my group mate and our actor because they definitely made so much easier and made everything go much smoother. I really liked working on this project, I had an idea and I made it come to life which is a pretty cool thing to me. It was also interesting to me to realize that so much of the film was really editing, that’s what really helped my vision come together. While obviously we wouldn’t have a project without the filming, the editing is really where the project was made. This project helped me see h...

I’ve had some of my friends and family take a look at our project. We were basically done besides maybe a few transitions and some missing text. So I had my mother and friend watch it. The feedback was pretty decent actually and I’m pretty proud of what we made. I’m glad we got to reshoot the scene with the actor on Tuesday it definitely worked out and the scene looks much better. We didn’t really receive any negative feedback besides the fact we need to finish the editing. They said they liked what we did with the case file so I’m happy we put as much effort into that as we did because it made a difference. Besides that they also said they liked the camera work so props to my group mate for that because she had a lot of good ideas for working the angles. The only sort of negative feedback was that our music sounded tacky but there’s not really much we can do about that since we needed royalty free music. So now all that we have left to do is finish the editing and we’ll be done.

Editing blog

Today me and my group mate started the editing process. We really didn’t do much besides put everything in order. It was a little confusing getting all the scenes in order but we figured it out. We still are going to have to add all the effects and text and transitions. However it looks pretty good so far. I’m going to show a few of my friends and mother to try to get some feedback and see if they think it looks good. I think it’ll be good to get an outside perspective on our project and see if they have good advice for making it better. I’ll be asking some other AICE Media students as well so hopefully they have some tips I don’t know about. Besides that the editing is going good and we don’t have much left besides the transitions and text and other effects we may or may not add.

Re-film blog

Image
Me and my group have moved our film session up to today. We were talking about it and we were both free today so we decided to move up one of our session to today instead of this weekend. We still don’t have our actor for this session but we can at least get the refilling of some of our other scenes done. As I said before re-filming these scenes aren’t really that important but I’d still like to do it since we have the time and I’d like to make it as close to how I want it as possible. For today’s filming session we plan to reshoot a couple of the later scenes. I mostly just want to reshoot these scenes so that we have more variety of footage for them. That way I can see which ones I like best during the editing process. Even though I think having more film might make sorting it more confusing I also think it will be a good thing when editing in case I dont like the way one scene turned out or if I don’t think it fits the right way, I can have another scene that maybe fits in better....

Music blog

Image
Me and my group mate have been discussing the music choice we will use for our final project. We’ve been talking about doing a suspenseful song to go in the background. However i have in mind something that isn’t very heart racing and more just lightly suspenseful. I know that is a weird way of describing it but I don’t know any other way too. It’s kind of just an idea I’ve had in my head for how i want the music to go but I dont know how I can put it into words any better. Anyway we’ve been looking for good royalty free music on youtube and we found a video with a bunch of different styles of suspenseful music. There was only two however that fit what I had in mind and I’m not sure which one we will use or if maybe we will use both. That will end up being decided during the editing process because I am going to need to try out both over the final film to see which one I think fits best.

I have been looking through a lot of our filming today and I’ve been making notes on what i think needs to be added or redone. Sadly I think we need to re-film one of the scenes done with our actor. This is a little bit of a set back because it is kinda difficult scheduling with someone who isn’t really affiliated with our project, because obviously they are not going to care as much as me and my group do. However I am not too worried about this set back. I considered just keeping it the way it is and calling it a wrap for filming, but since we still have a bit of time left for our project I think it’s safe to re-film it and try making it as close to how I picture it in my head as possible. So for that reason we will be trying to get a filming session scheduled with the actor sometime next weekend. There is a few other things i’d like to fix up but they aren’t really as important. I’m hoping everything works out well with our actor because that’s the only thing that I am kind of worrie...

Filming blog

This weekends filming went really well, we got it all done!! I wasnt expecting to get it all finished today but we made it happen. All the filming went really smooth and we didn’t have really any issues, besides having to shoot a couple of scenes twice, but that’s expected when filming anything. We have a good amount of footage to look through and i’m sure a bit of it will get cut down in editing. We filmed for around four hours on friday and around 5 hours on saturday. It was very tiring but i’m glad we did it. While we did finish all our filming I think we will still do another session after looking over the footage because there is a chance we missed something. So I think we will do that next weekend after we’ve finished going through the footage.

This week we started our first bit of filming. It went well and was very smooth especially for our first session. We got enough done and everything went more or less according to plan. I’m happy with how it turned out. We finished about 1/3 of the filming. We haven’t done anything with our other actor yet so i’m still nervous about getting all that situated. I am also nervous about editing since I think that will take up a large amount of time to do what I have in mind for the project. However in the end I think it will all work out fine and i’m actually really excited to see how it turns out because I have put a lot of thought and time into this project. I don’t know when our next filming session will be probably within the next week or so.

This week we’ve been working on our case file which is the main prop for our movie and is made up of different media including newspaper headings and pictures of victims of the murders. I wanted to make this case file look good because it is a big part of our film. It’s been a lot of work getting everything together for it especially since we’re doing all the media from scratch. It’s basically just been us having photoshoots trying to get the best angle. Besides that we plan to shoot our first real scene in a few days. We’ve worked everything out with our other actor. So hopefully it all works out well. We’re also still working on getting places to shoot our other scenes. This is a little difficult but I’m sure we’ll figure it out soon.

We plan to start filming this week, even though we haven’t started yet there still is a lot of preparation that needs to be done. This week we’ve been working on a lot of props for our project. The main thing we’ve been working on is the case file that appears in our video which will be a very big part of the project. This case file requires a bunch of real pictures and news paper headings that we have to create and then add. While this isn’t very difficult it is a very big part of the story of our project and we still need to use costumes and props to capture the pictures for the file. We will be using a polaroid camera also so we can print out the pictures on the spot, This makes it so we don’t have to go anywhere to get the photos developed. We also are still working on getting an actor to play the captain I have someone in mind we just need to coordinate a good time to film with them, worst case scenario we will just shoot the police captain scenes later on and get everything else ...

Our Storyboard

Hi guys! We finished our storyboard finally. We hand drew each frame ourselves even though we aren’t the best artists, but hopefully you guys enjoy! :)

Final Task: Title Design

Image
Hi viewers welcome back, today this blog will be introducing our ideas for our title design!   Our Font: We’re hoping to mimic the fonts of other thriller movies, that including dramatic bold colors that imply the theme for the movie. For example, The Night Lamp, Stranger Things, and Bloody Mary all have bright red fonts that are chosen to evoke fear for the movie. A lot of thriller or horror movies include blood dripping from their titles for effect as well. Contrast: Color: As previously stated, thriller movies commonly used bright colors such as red, that stand out from the background. The Halloween movies all have very similar title cards with bright orange font and a contrasting color background. This is important because it implies the upcoming events of the storyline. The title cards shown down below show two examples of the same movie franchise that have chosen to use both bright bold colors for dramatics, and simple black and white font which proves to be just a...

Final Task: Script

Police Station:  Capitan: I’m assigning you to a new case Captain: I think you’ll be well suited for Detective: Yes sir  Captain: *shows case file  Captain: This guy seems to be a real nut job Detective: Indeed he does sir

Final Task: Info

Image
Schedule:  2/5/24 We will begin filming around this time, It may be sooner depending on the circumstances but this is around the latest we will start our filming. We will try to film our scenes in order, there isn’t many actors, there is only one scene that requires an actor outside of our group which is the first one so we will try to get that one out of the way first.  2/10/24 I plan we will film every five days or so again it could be later or sooner then that depending on how things go.  2/15/24 This would be the time around our third filming session. 2/16/24-2/19/24 We will start the editing process by putting the scenes together and see if we missed anything 2/20/24 I do not think we will need a fourth filming session for as I think all our scenes will be done by the third, however we will use this session to go over all the scenes and see if we missed anything  2/21/24-3/5/24 We will edit during this time, It may take longer then projected which is ok. This is...

Title research: Splice

Image
Hey guys, this is the third movie for my title research! What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?  -Warner Brothers  -Dark Castle Entertainment  -Gaumont  -Copper heart Entertainment  - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  - animal x-rays   - veins/ veiny skin - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? This opening sequence definitely did a good job of making me feel uncomfortable. It was very off putting which could be a good aspect of a thriller.

Title Research Intro

Image
In doing my title research I found a great site called artofthetitle.com. I stumbled across this site pretty easily when looking up opening title sequences. This was a very good find because it has everything we need to do our title research. It has the opening sequences to a bunch of movies from all types of genres so it was pretty easy to find one for our purposes. I tried a couple of other sites besides this one to see if there were any better ones and while there were some similar I found that this one was the easiest to use.
