Movie Convention Research: Reptile

Image
This is a new Netflix movie about a detective investigating a murder that links back to a bunch of corruption with in the police force and the fbi. While this definitely wasn’t my favorite movie I liked the plot of it and I could definitely take a few notes on the way they developed the characters throughout the movie. While i know i won’t be making a full movie it still helps me to see how I would go about making the a full movie. I think this way of thinking will help bring a lot more depth to our final project instead of just piecing something together without thinking about the full picture. Over all I didnt really like this movie and I think there is a lot from it I’d like to leave out of my project. However they did a good job on some aspects like keeping the viewer guessing what will happen next.

Movie Convention Research: Knives Out

Image
Knives out is a murder mystery type of thriller. The aspect I like most about this movie is all of the twists and turns it has leaving you on the edge of your seat. This is something i’d like to incorporate into my own project as I think it is a big part of a good thriller. Something I didn’t like about this movie (relating to my project) was the sprinkle of humor used throughout the movie. I wouldn’t want my movie to have that much humor as I’d want it to be more serious leading it to be more suspenseful.

Movie Convention Research: The Batman

Image
The batman has a lot of elements I’d like to put into my movie, it takes the story of batman and makes it more of a thriller than the average action super hero movie. I’d like to make use of the eerie vibe they made for this movie. The opening scene was set in a dark city at night  as the camera slowly panned around with a voice over of the main character. These are some of the things i’d like to try to use in our final task. However some of the things that I didn’t like about this movie (in relation to making my own film) was the intense action scenes, this is only really because I don’t think it would work well in our own movie. The action scenes from the Batman were very flashy.

Genre decision

Image
Hi viewers! So as you guys have seen, our group has been researching all types of genres to make a final decision for our opening sequence. we've gone through thriller, romance, and action movies to see which variation we thought would be most fitting for our group considering the resources and other aspects of filming. Considering all of the aspects that we may need to include to fit our pitch for the opening sequence, we decided to go with a thriller. The thriller genre goes the best with our idea which was to revolve around a mystery involving a murder, we didnt think action or romance would best fit this sequence considering it doesnit align too well with the theme. A close second for this idea would probably be the horror genre, but horror and thriller are pretty similar in terms of features, so we figured thriller was going to be the best! Hope you guys enjoy!!

Romance Genre research

Image
Genre: Romance The setting can be used to create a romantic atmosphere such as a candlelight dinner, a science beach view, or a city skyline. The setting can also be used to reflect the characters emotions and personalities. Costumes can be used to convey the characters personalities social status and style. In a romance movie, costumes can be used to create a sense of intimacy and connection between the characters. Movies such as these may use a tuxedo and a nice dress for a night out or a casuals look for an evening dinner. Lightning can be used to tell the mood of the story such as a candlelight soft lighting or the warm glow of a sunset or sunrise. Lighting can be used to tell the actors emotions. A bright light may indicate happiness, or a dark light may indicate sadness or introspection. Romance movies typically use a brighter light when the characters seemed to be in love. While a darker light when the couple is fighting or breaking up. Props can be used to indicate an acto

Thriller Genre research

Image
Genre: Thriller Common camera angles I have seen in this genre are high and low angles, however high angles are more common as they convey shock and fear in thrillers. Dutch angles are also frequent in thrillers to generate an uneasy feeling or that something is ominous. Eye-level angles are frequently used with zooms to create tension or show emotion, for example, it could be used to show fear in someone's eyes. Camera movements in thrillers that I have seen most prominently is tracking which could show someone being following. Zooms are also used as they could seem unnatural or artificial, making them perfect for thrillers. Pans and tilts are also used to show scenes and characters, but from what I have seen, tracking and zooms are more common. Camera shots I have seen in thriller movies are establishing shots, wide shots, medium close-ups, long shots, medium shots, close-ups, extreme close-ups, arial shots, two-shots, and over the shoulder shots. Most scenes are shot with a s

Action Genre research

Image
Genre: Action  Common camera angles I have seen in this genre are medium shots, Birdseye, over the shoulder, aerial, and long shots. A lot of these angles are implemented to build suspense for the character or the specific event happening. A lot of panning shots are used also to follow the action in a film. Commonly for fight scenes, high and low angle shots are used. For camera movements, it is apparent that the action is followed through the use of the camera itself. It isn't very common to watch a fight scene from just one single angle or perspective. Camera movements such as tracking shots are frequently used to capture the very intimate elements of action movies that are very physical. Even in car chases during action movies, a point of view shot is commonly used to act as a passengers perspective of being inside the vehicle during the chase. While researching and watching action movies for this blog, I observed a common type of lighting which remained to be a more bright a

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch A: A man has a dark secret as he helps his city, in his own way.  Pitch B: A detective is investigating an ongoing serial killer, which gives him the perfect cover to continue his killings. Pitch A discussion: A man takes matters into his own hands as he takes out criminals in his city. He keeps his vigilante nights a secret as he takes down the criminal population. His methods are not acceptable under the law.  Pitch B discussion: A detective has been looking into a recent serial killer who has been very effective at not getting caught. This is because the killer is the detective who understands how to avoid leaving evidence. The detective works to keep himself from being caught now that he has been assigned his own case. Our final decision: We will go with pitch B because we think there is more to work with. Pitch B: A detective is investigating an ongoing serial killer, which gives him the perfect cover to continue his killings.

Group blog

So I have recently chose my group for my final task project. Firstly I chose this girl in my class who I know. I chose her because she has good work ethic and is very artistic. We also have alot of the same taste in movies so I think that will help us agree on things and work well together for this project. We recently worked together on the last project we did and got along really well.

Intro blog

Hello again, I’m back to introduce myself, this time I will be doing my final task. So to start off my name is Hunter and I go to ft lauderdale high school. This is my third year doing Cambridge and it’s been good so far. I find this class fairly difficult possibly because it’s outside my comfort zone and is formatted differently than my traditional classes. However, I have done multiple projects now and I am getting more comfortable making these productions. I’ve gotten better at editing and filming so hopefully this will be my best project yet. I personally like a lot of suspenseful thriller movies and I think they have the best opening sequences. With that being said I also like comedies and action movies so it’s all kind of up in the air. I am excited to work on this project though and I hope you will enjoy it.
